Yoga Center of Deerfield Beach

Our Center is the oldest active yoga studio in South Florida. The Yoga Center in Deerfield began 35 years ago by a young yogini, Gail Teichmann. Dotty Zevin, RYT, became the Director 17 years ago. Today the Yoga Center is a place teeming with different kinds of yoga classes for every day of the week. Day and night classes include Hatha Yoga, Flow Yoga, Restorative / Therapeutic, Stress Reduction, Gentle, Beginners, Yoga for Balance and Strength, Jivamukti and Feldenkrais.

Our teachers come from all different backgrounds of yoga. All are Registered Yoga Teachers with Yoga Alliance. The touchstone of the Yoga Center is the Teacher Training Program. JoAnn Evans, RYT (500 hours) has been the Director of Teacher Training since 1988. The program begins every September.

As stated in the June 2004 Enlightened Practice by staff writer, Silvana Soleri: The Yoga Center of Deerfield Beach is more than a yoga studio - it is a historical landmark of our South Florida yoga community. It is a treasure trove of experience, devotion, and integrity in the life and practice of the yogic path.

ABOUT OUR TEACHERS
JoAnn Evans, R.Y.T. has dedicated herself to the propagation of Yoga. She has been teaching Yoga for 30 years. She was awarded the title of Yoga Siromani in 1975 from Swami Vishnu Devananda after 6 weeks of Teacher Training at Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center in Val Morin, Quebec Canada. Before moving to Florida 24 years ago, JoAnn operated a successful studio in the D.C. area. At the Yoga Center of Deerfield Beach, she teaches Hatha Yoga, stress reduction, meditation, Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Sutra classes. Hundreds of students have completed her teacher training classes in South Florida and Evergreen Yoga in Bethesda, Maryland. Her Yoga classes draw students from all over the country. Her unparalleled style of teaching Raja Yoga combines postures, breathing techniques and meditation with methods to incorporate the philosophy of Yoga into our daily lives. Her knowledge of the body enables her to effectively teach beginners as well as the most advanced students. Her wisdom, kindness and wit create a stimulating and warm environment for her students. JoAnn has been the Yoga Center Director of Training since our Teacher Training program began in 1988. She has 500 instruction hours registered with Yoga Alliance.
Eunice Wellington, R.Y.T., has been teaching Hatha Yoga for over 60 years. She has been Director of 2 Sivananda Ashrams in New York with a following of students throughout the Tri-State area. Her unparalleled zeal and dedications has attracted many to the path of yoga. She considers it her duty to instruct others in the Yoga disciplines. Her vision is that the chain of Yoga knowledge and teachings will someday bind humanity into one great World Brotherhood of unity and peace. Eunice teaches from the heart of alignment with Divine Grace.
Louise Goldberg, R.Y.T., is a licensed massage therapist and holds an M.A. in education. She was originally certified at the Sivananda Ashram in Quebec, and has been teaching Hatha Yoga since 1980. In addition to teaching adults, she teaches yoga to children in the public school systems, including those with emotional handicaps and autism. Louise has trained hundreds of educators to implement yoga-based exercises into their classrooms. She uses yoga as therapy in her massage practice, and sees yoga’s benefits in healing injuries and chronic pain, both physical and emotional. Louise’s love for asana, her fascination with yoga philosophy, and her desire to bring peace into the world are the foundations for her teaching.
Dotty Zevin, R.Y.T., has been the Director of the Yoga Center in Deerfield Beach for 16 years. She received her yoga teacher certification 17 years ago at the Kripalu Center in Lenox, Mass. At Kripalu, Dotty developed her philosophy about yoga: It is a journey through our hearts to open to our highest selves. She believes in the joy of teaching. She encourages playfulness in her classes as a way to connect to divine grace. Dotty has the gift of inspiring her students to become teachers.
Christine Apter, M.S., R.Y.T., is a Certified Yoga Teacher and has been studying Yoga for 30 years. Christine holds a Master’s Degree in Biology and has a background in the medical field. She uses a blend of mental (Raja) and physical (Hatha) techniques to purify and strengthen the mind, body and spirit, stressing practical uses of relaxation, alignment, concentration and meditation through breathing, postures and mindfulness. Her Yoga philosophy: “Our purpose on this earth is to realize our true nature”.
Brett Northrop R.Y.T., has been practicing yoga since her early teens and was first certified as a Yoga Teacher in January 1988. In April, 2003, she completed the extensive training at the Deerfield Yoga Center to become a Yoga Alliance Registered Teacher. Her style of Hatha Yoga comes from the Sivananda lineage, including the 8 limbs of ashtanga teachings, with special attention to asana, pranayama, and pratyahara (turning inward). Her teaching is clear and precise as she guides her students from posture to posture, observing and correcting to assure students’ progress and comfort. Brett’s knowledge of the body and keen observations of her students enables them to deepen both their physical and spiritual awareness.
Ann Rosenbaum, R.Y.T. is a certified yoga instructor, receiving her certification from the Yoga Center, Deerfield Beach, FL in 1998 and 2004. She has conducted workshops on meditation, breathing, and yogic principles. She brings to her students her love, devotion, and appreciation of yoga and life.
Kim Hough, R.Y.T. is a Certified Yoga Instructor with the Yoga Alliance. She brings inspiration and warmth to her classes which emphasize linking breath with movement ad awareness. You will learn to release tension, as well as train your mind to be present in the moment to reach a peaceful state of balance. Kim invites you to join her on a journey to dissolve all esteem-limiting definitions of yourself created by comparing yourself to others, fears, doubts, criticisms, insecurities, and judgments. As the journey unfolds; the treasure is discovered...that JOY is truly found within. This supports her vision to make a difference in the world by helping people heal so their light will be a beacon to others in the hope that eventually all of humanity will be bound in peace, love, and unity.
